Despite the fires that have been burning in Eastern WA for the last month+ we feel we dodged a huge bullet. The cabin did not burn, but we did experience a debris flow when the nearby Pope Creek plugged at the culvert, backed up and flowed a stream of mud and gruck down the driveway through our front yard. Not sure what the back yard looks like but it doesnt look like it went inside the cabin-thank goodness. The fire was as close as up across the road from our driveway, and all the way down the river road for about a 3 mile stretch but never crossed the road towards our cabin. I know this is the protective shield my mom put up around the cabin. Feeling grateful for all the hard work of the firefighters who put in all those sandbags, not to mention fought this fire. Thank you!
