Destiny deferred By james a. galgano Another day under the thin slice of piercing knife Digging deep into my heart and this puzzling life Which surrounds all like intriguing web of wonder or deceit Often casting asunder all hopes and dreams incomplete Filling our ears eyes heart and soul with stars out of reach Where wishes are made but never come true, as we deserve them to be Thus we are often left alone to our own devices to survive this reality Fallen upon us like tears beneath the storm clouds we daily face Running for cover or building any type of shelter from elusive grace Which too often abandons us almost on cue to fend for ourselves Shopping through life’s empty corridors for our needs on empty shelves Even though time has long expired leaving us always wanting for more But no matter how much we accumulate things it is never enough as before So in the shadows we await some light to guide us through every tomorrow’s maze Left forever wanting more than we have as if having it all would truly save Us from ourselves and our endless appetite what we long to endlessly devour Until we once more awake to savor the taste of a meaningless life gone sour Too often surrendering ourselves to what we desire but will never be in our life Facing another day too often alone to hopefully make the most beneath starlight
