Devastating! Condolences to the Dog who finally found a foster home dies in fatal car crash May 5, 2014 Tuscarawas County Humane Society Penny Eims Dog News Examiner A neglected and abandoned dog, who had been at a shelter in Dover, Ohio, for more than a year, died in a tragic car accident which also claimed the lives of two members of his recently acquired foster family. According to the Canton Repository, the dog, named Aspen, was in the vehicle with his foster family last Wednesday when the vehicle plunged off of a ramp and into Nimishillen Creek. The accident killed 23-year-old Paul T. Guthrie, 23, and his infant daughter, Gabriella; two other members of the family survived and were taken to a hospital. Shortly before the fatal accident, the Guthrie family had offered to bring the four-year-old dog to their home for a day - then, they decided to keep him overnight. The family had hoped to get Aspen out of the shelter in an effort to improve his chances of being adopted. Last week, members of the Tuscarawas County Humane Society heard about the crash and realized that it was the family who was caring for Aspen. When the dogs body was not found inside of the vehicle, a search to find him began. All hope for a happy resolution dissolved when Aspens body was found by two boys on Sunday in the creek which the vehicle had crashed into; he has since been cremated. Staff at the humane society remember Aspen as a friendly dog who loved to play with his toys - a dog who always brought a smile to everyones face.
