Development authority meeting was held this evening @ 3pm. City zoning for commercial property was approved last Thursday for Fram to be able to move their headquarters to Hazlehurst. That should mean more additional jobs coming to Hazlehurst. As construction is well under way for the FRAM site work thus far has been subcontracted out. Hiers & Co is preparing the site, Albany Electric is doing electrical while Leggett is finishing the concrete. Check with them individually for any jobs available. Executive director Keith Carter stated that Bassford Warehouse insurance is still an issue. After a very lengthy discussion about the insurance and the liability of storing wood pellets a vote was taken to approve the purchase of insurance. The issue with getting the warehouses insured is that wood and wood pellets are stored in them. It was stated by board members wood pellets burn, that is what they are built for. The problem is fire potential. Insurance companies want the least amount of risk. The director stated the board needed to enter executive session for real estate purposes. Chairman asked for any public comments and I stated my opinion on the month to month rental for the warehouses. If material is in the warehouse on the first day of the month the county collects $2,000 per month for each warehouse. Potential of renting 4 warehouses. If material is stored anytime from the 2nd day to the end of the month the county does not collect any rent. I shared with the board that the rent should be prorated or it might be better to offer the renters an annual contract for the same period of the insurance policy at a reduced rate so they we could make sure that we are financially able to maintain insurance on that type of investment. These warehouses have been appraised for a minimum of $4.1 million.
