Development council saatero inu... Mudakafunsa mmene anzanu amachitira ndi Malawi Development Corporation (MDC) under the Malawi Congress Party (MCP). This government is indeed childish as purported in other sectors... Let me show you... MDC was established as a statutory corporation by the Malawi Government Ordinance No. 13 of 1964, but later governed by the MDC Amendment Act of 1970. The purpose was to develop agricultural, mining, industrial and commercial enterprises. This was to be achieved through provision of loan capital and/or equity participation in a number of activities. OSATI KUNGOPANGA TIMAKOMITI KU STATE HOUSE! Development is a thought-through process and must be enacted properly! It is not just a personal project. It should be owned by the entire country. Anzanu zimafika ku parliament izi... In the ADB Project Performance Evaluation Report (PPER) of March 5, 1987; under the ADB line of credit between 1973-1978, disbursements totaling BUA1,5m, a total of 6 industrial sector sub-projects were part financed. This saw the birth of many companies in Malawi offering employment and economic boost to many thousands of Malawians, among others: 1) Plastic Products Limited (PPL); 2) Maldeco Fisheries Limited (MFL); 3) National Oil Industries Limited (NOIL); 4) Under NOIL, there were several sub-projects like Kabwe Rice Mill, Chilumba Paddy Parboiling Plant, and Blantyre Rice Quality and Milling Laboratory. 5) Can Makers Limited; In the summary of the report, ADB reported that the MDC had played satisfactorily its role as a promoter of industrial development projects in Malawi, in particular those oriented towards substitution of imports. You may also appreciate that under this initiative, Malawi saw the birth and flourishing of the following companies (just to mention a few): 1) Universal Industries; 2) Malawi Railways; 3) UTM; 4) Brown & Crapperton (B&C) 5) Mandala Motors 6) Southern Bottlers 7) Malawi Distilleries Limited 8) SUCOMA 9) PEW Ltd 10) Grain & Milling (GRAMIL) 11) WICO 12) Lever Brothers (Mw) Ltd 13) Blantyre Netting Co. Ltd 14) Produsak 15) Cold Storage 16) Malawi Dairy Industries (MDL); 17) MANICA 18) Leyland 19) BAT 20) Leopard Matches 21) Crown Fashions/ Robbin Bridge/ Chilimba Garments 22) Leather and Luggage 23) Mapanga 24) Bata Shoe Company and many small, medium to large private and public companies!!! You may appreciate that in this MCP era, Malawi adopted a Rostow economic model to speed up economic growth and facilitate Import Substitution Industrialization. Contrast that with todays wishy-washy policies... Even underwear is imported... even toothpicks are imported.. and the leadership perpetuates poverty by handouts rather than solid economic principles!!! #ZAMARUBBISH BASI!!!
