#Devotion Word Power. The story of David and Goliath is one - TopicsExpress

#Devotion Word Power. The story of David and Goliath is one that we have heard over and over again and we have drawn strength, encouragement and inspiration from it. One thing that stood out to me as I looked at this story again is that there is a lot of talk going back and forth. The armies of Israel are camped on one hill while the Philistine army is camped on another. Goliath the Philistine champion would come out and speak. As much as his looks were scary and intimidating, his speech had a bigger effect on the armies of Israel 1 Samuel 17:10-11 Then the Philistine said, “I defy the ranks of Israel today. Send me a man so we can fight each other!” When Saul and all Israel heard these words from the philistine, they lost their courage and were terrified. Words have power! Words have power so much so that they froze a whole army! It was the words from Goliath that affected the whole army of Israel, the bible says that when Saul and all Israel heard these words from the Philistine they lost courage and were terrified. It was not the size of the giant neither was it the armour his was wearing but the words that he spoke that created fear in the Israelite camp. Every day for forty days the armies of Israel would come out in battle formation shouting their battle cry but as soon as Goliath would come out and speak, throwing his challenge, Israel would retreat from him terrified. Have you lost courage? Are you terrified? What words have you been listening to? Goliaths words had created an atmosphere of fear defeat and hopelessness in the Israelites camp. I find it amazing that the Israelites did not say a word in return to Goliath or place a counter challenge until David came into the picture. Words create an atmosphere because words have creative power. They have the capacity to change our moods and our actions. There is no way the Israelites would have won that war because they had already lost it in their hearts. They had believed every word that Goliath had spoken, that affected their will to fight. What have you been listening to? What negative words have you allowed to create an atmosphere of defeat in your life? Who is this who comes out daily to defy you a child of the king and why do you remain quiet and terrified not saying a word in return? We take dominion by what we say and in just the same way we allow the enemy to take dominion over our lives by believing what he says and whispers to us. Remember in the Garden of Eden there was no coup or violent take over, just a lot of speaking. The devil changed the atmosphere by his words. He created an atmosphere of doubt and suspicion and Adam and Eve did the rest! The words you believe, create the reality you live in! We get saved by confessing with our mouths (speech) what we believe in our hearts, that Jesus Christ is Lord! Practical Application: Speak, dont be silent, speak life over the situations before you...Jesus said you shall say to this mountain, be removed and cast into the sea.....SAY SOMETHING!
