Devotional for July 19, 2013 Picture two or three watermelons in your mind, add a few cantaloupes and maybe one or two honeydews, then a few grape clusters. Now imagine someone carrying all of these fruits. You watch them swoop and sway as the load causes a totally unbalanced walk. Their teeth clinch and their knees buckle under the unbearable weight. Then you watch as they fumble, then fall. This is what we look like to God when we attempt to carry the weight of sin. God saw us buckling and shuffling under the weight of sin, and as a sign of His love, He offered to carry it for us. He removed the burden from our shoulders and placed it on Himself; He carried it as His own. He was treated as if He had been a sinner, in order that we might be treated as if we were not; as if we were righteous. If you refuse to allow Jesus to carry your heavy load of sin, you’ll have to bear it all by yourself; a price that’s too high to pay. God has forgiven you; you would be wise to do the same. 1 Peter 2:24 (NLT) He personally carried our sins in His body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. By His wounds you are healed.
