Diabetes Public Awareness Exhibit EAST CHICAGO (November 7, 2013) - November is National Diabetes Awareness month in recognition of this, the library is featuring a display in the Templeton Gallery, which is housed in the Main Library, 2401 E. Columbus Drive with information, free brochures and pamphlets on diabetes awareness. The month-long annual observance is a chance to raise awareness of this ever-growing disease and is one of the main efforts behind American Diabetes Month. The display includes information about risk factors, symptoms, and complications of diabetes. The informational display is provided by St. Catherine Hospital. Library patrons are encouraged to stop by and view the exhibit and to help themselves to the free material through November 15 during regular library hours. In addition, residents are invited to have their blood pressure checked for free this month at the East Chicago Public Library. A health professional from St. Catherine Hospital will conduct the screenings and answer questions from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 13 at the Main Library, 2401 E. Columbus Drive. The free blood pressure screenings are being held in collaboration with Multicultural Wellness Network MOTTEP and St. Catherine Hospital. Registration is not required.
