Dianne Wiest, 66, has won two Oscars, two Emmies and a Golden Globe. On stage, she has co-starred with the likes of James Earl Jones, Al Pacino and Jon Lithgow. Shes as versatile and talented as anyone in our dramatic pantheon. Last week, in an interview promoting her new movie. she revealed to The Times that she is being offered so few movie or TV roles these days that shes going to lose her rented apartment in New York. Somehow, I cant envision Michael Douglas, Kevin Kline or Tommy Lee Jones -- three other actors of the same age, but a different gender -- being evicted from their place in the city because they couldnt pay the rent because they cant get decent roles because there just arent enough writers writing good roles for, like, men.
