Diary of a poor amateur botanist who relies on Google. Wellington Monument 3 While all the plants that we saw had beauty in their own right, some of them are just plain, downright boring. Knapweed (Certaurea Scubiosa) and Hawksweed both fall into this category. Knapweed. There are upwards of 600 varieties of knapweed around the world and they all resemble in varying ways a thistle. The plant is not found in the southern hemisphere. The flower has a diversity of colours, ranging from intense blues, reds and yellows to any mixtures of these and lighter shades towards white. The plant has no culinary or medicinal properties. Hawksweed. Another plant that holds no useful properties. It is said that if dried and smoked, it produces slight hallucinogenic effects!!! There are a lot of disappointed people on forums who have tried this! 1 & 2. Knapweed. 3. Hawksweed.
