Dibrugarh Rajdhani derailed today. Unless we appreciate that safety and therefore accidents are merely a symptom and not a disease and tackle it as such, accidents on the railways shall continue to amaze us by their regularity. An organization that reeks of rampant corruption, is feudal and archaic and takes in its stride corruption at apex level postings as witnessed during railgate would continue to chug along the road to disaster. All previous recommendations - Rakesh Mohan committee report and the Kakodkar committee report have been gathering dust. Tough measures to change the structure and processes and provide a semblance of bureaucratic leadership have now become inevitable.
