Diction is the manner in which words are pronounced. Under this term, comes two completely different levels of diction. The first one called formal language. It is characterized by sublime vocabulary and concrete grammar. Words will be sophisticated. This language does not have contractions . The second type is informal language. It is totally the opposite . Everyday speech dominates this language. To clarify, consider the following words: wann, gonna, and gotta. In addition to that, denoting a particular regional variety of language used to distinguish the word "dialect" from other words. In contrast to dialect, is slang, which groups determined by age or special interest rather than region. What is more, slang is initially calculated to call attention to itself and its user, whereas dialect is not. For me, I do really encourage students to use formal language in case of writing: paragraphs, essays, research papers, applications to companies, etc. I do not mind using informal language while chatting and sending messages to friends as well.
