Did I call it or did I call it? stonekettle/2014/11/bring-it-on.html Okay, it didnt really require any special powers of clairvoyance. Anybody could have seen it coming, mostly because Cruz and Co. arent exactly hard to read paragons of inscrutability who keep their cards close to the vest. Still, did I call it or what?. If the president announces executive amnesty, the new Senate majority leader who takes over in January should announce that the 114th Congress will not confirm a single nominee—executive or judicial—outside of vital national security positions, so long as the illegal amnesty persists, declared Ted Cruz today. Fair enough. You know, since the president did NOT in fact announce amnesty (Ted must be thinking of Reagan). So I guess Ted will be voting to confirm the Presidents appointees. Right? Right? Are you saying that the Senate should refuse to confirm Loretta Lynch, the presidents new nominee for attorney general, and thereby leave Eric Holder, who you dont like very much, in that position even longer? Fox New Ed Wallace asked. Yeah, Ted, what about that? Cruz didnt answer, naturally. He just sort of drooled on himself and waved his hands around, perhaps in hopes Jesus would step in and start the Rapture. Then he made some vague references to checks and balances. But, see, the first thing about checks and balances? THEY WORK BOTH WAYS. The Legislative and Judicial Branch are a check on the Executive, and the Executive and Judicial Branches are a check on the drooling insanity in Congress. It works BOTH ways. And the second thing about checks and balances? They were implemented to keep government working, not as a murder/suicide pact. If Ted Cruz wants to stop executive action by President Obama, he has a simple and effective method of doing so. He doesnt have to shut down the government. He doesnt have to sue. He doesnt have to hold up nominations. He doesnt have to make threats about impeachment. He doesnt have to punish every single American and half the free world. All he has to do is his goddamned job. All Congress has to do, the most effective way to curb the Presidents use of executive orders, is their job. Pass a bill. If these petulant obstructionist jackholes had put one tenth the effort into making government work as they do into gumming it up, wed have effective long term immigration reform, wed have a workable energy policy, wed have fair and intelligent tax reform, wed have a balanced budget, wed have healthcare that worked for everybody and that we could all afford. Pass the bill. Pass the bill or get bypassed, Congress. Its just that simple. theatlantic/politics/archive/2014/11/ted-cruzs-solution-to-immigration-order-is-to-keep-eric-holder-in-office/383085/
