Did You Know... England technically owns California? Sounds - TopicsExpress

Did You Know... England technically owns California? Sounds crazy, huh? But no, its a true fact. ^^ You see on June 17,1579, Sir Francis Drake claimed the area now known as California in the name of the Queen of England. To this day, Drakes claim has not been challenged, and Great Britain has never ceded the territory to the US (or Spain and Mexico for that matter). For many years historians were aware that Drake probably reached the shores of California in the 16th century. In 1936, evidence was finally found to confirm it. On the north shore of San Francisco Bay, near the Golden Gate Bridge, a shop clerk named Beryle Shinn picked up a rock and saw what looked like a piece of brass buried in the soil. He unearthed a rather large, dirt-caked metal plate and took it home. Eight months later, while curiously examining the piece of metal, he noticed what appeared to be writing and attempted to clean it up. He could make out the word Drake, but could not decipher the remaining symbols. Shinn took the plate to Dr. Herbert Bolton at the University of California, where it was thoroughly cleaned and its messaged was revealed: (The following is written exactly as it is written on the metal plate, so it might look a little weird...) BEE IT KNOWNE VNTO ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENTS IVNE 17, 1579 BY THE GRACE OF GOD AND IN THE NAME OF HERR MAIESTY QVEEN ELIZAVETH OF ENGLAND AND HERR SVCESSORS FOREVER I TAKE POSSESSION OF THIS KINGDOM WHOSE KING AND PEOPLE FREELY RESIGN THEIR RIGHT AND TITLE IN THE WHOLE LAND VNTO HERR MAIESTIES KEEPING NOW NAMED BY ME AND TO BEE KNOWNE VNTO ALL MEN AS NOVA ALBION FRANCIS DRAKE So Californias real name is New Albion. It was in British possession before the Spanish came and claimed the land, before Mexico took the land as it broke away from Spain, and before the US came and stole it from Mexico. Fortunately, (for most people, and not including me) the British have not pursued their claim during the ensuing years. Perhaps it is because the Royal Family has experienced enough recent adversity without adding such further headaches as earthquakes, smog, horrific traffic jams, riots, wildfires, mud slides, and screenplay-wielding amateur screenwriters. ~Admin Sanraizu~ P.S. If anyone wants a translation on the metal plate, comment it below and Ill translate it in the comments for all to see.
