Did anyone else see this on Today Tonight? I was totally disgusted and if this can happen it means I can smack anyone I feel like in the mouth and walk away a free man and no conviction against my name! This has now set a precedence as far as I can see! What is going on with the justice system ??????????????????? You may not recognise his name but it is likely you will remember Omar Ammouche. In a recent Today Tonight report about Muslim sectarian violence on our streets we showed vision of Mr Ammouche attacking another Muslim man he disagreed with. Today he fronted court on what appeared to be an open and shut assault charge. But the verdict has left many stunned. Mr Ammouche was arrested, charged and admitted that he was the one caught on Today Tonight cameras punching Jamal Daoud in the head. Both men are Sunni Muslims, but disagree with each other’s points of views over the Syrian crisis. And today, at the Bankstown Court in Sydney’s Western suburbs, magistrate Elaine Truscott recorded no conviction and imposed on Mr Ammouche a 12-month good behaviour bond – accepting the defendant is a ‘good community member and a community builder’. The prosecuting sergeant asked the magistrate to record an assault conviction, saying not to do so would send a message that the conduct is acceptable. Mr Ammouche has refused to apologise to his victim, Jamal Doud. Mr Doud says he is appalled by the ruling. “Me and my family now are more unsafe and we are holding the full responsibility of my safety and the safety of my family on the judge,” he said. As a condition of his good behaviour bond, Mr Ammouche is not allowed to approach Mr Doud for the next 12 months.
