Did site visits today and my heart is grieved at what I see. 2year olds standing around the teacher eating lunch at 1030am. When I called principal and asked what is happening she said they eat lunch at that time then sleep till 200 then have snack. I tell her fetch tables and chairs and let these children sit and eat. Then I visit the next one and the peincipal tells the children SHUT UP im talking to somebody. Children sleeping on chairs because teacher too lazy to put matressess down Children sleeping 4 on a cot mattress At 9am children watching tv No planning no observations no work being done no stimulation no development ONLY WAREHOUSING of our young children. I am going to make it my mission to get DHET to put pressure on DoSD WCED and the TVET to become more involved in sifting these learners who come for the stipend only and not the learning and take them off the learnerships and make sure they never get on an ECD learnership again. After all its not a numbers game of how many learnerships we crunch put annually but more so how many childrens lives have we impacted on with the programmes we operate. If goverment is not taking its mandate serious of children then we have to become radical
