Did you know ... In the Juvenile District Court of Danville and of Pittsylvania County, custody and visitation cases have a pre-trial hearing scheduled first. This is a short hearing that usually serves two major purposes, to see if the parties have an agreement and, if not, to see how long the trial of the matter will take. Do not be surprised if the actual trial is set two or more months after the pre-trial. So, before this hearing, you and other party (-ies) need to decide if you can reach an agreement. If you cant, think about what witnesses and other evidence you will need to present to make your case. Then, determine how long you will need to present this. Don t forget to include the time that the other side will use to cross-examine your witnesses! Remember, no judge wants a case to take more than the allotted time and make other people wait. Some judges can be quite strict about the time limits. Going over your time can mean that you will have to schedule another day to finish your hearing. This could be months down the road. If you are represent by counsel, you should discuss all of this with him or her. If you represent yourself, do your homework as you will have to handle this on your own. If you are interested in retaining counsel, Call Bud 434-799-5848
