Did you know that The Beaverton Police Have an Officer Who Speaks Japanese? Officer Lamb who has been a Police Officer with the City of Beaverton for three and a half years is fluent in Japanese. Officer Lamb spent two years in Japan and met his wife there. Officer Lamb and his wife are the proud parents of three children and he sees the importance of teaching his children Japanese and experiencing the Japanese culture. We have been lucky enough to host four different groups of Japanese students during 2014. Officer Lamb has been able to host all four of these groups and share his skills. It is amazing to see the expressions on the student’s faces when Officer Lamb greets them by speaking Japanese and then continues the tour speaking Japanese. In speaking with some of the students they are amazed on how well Officer Lamb speaks Japanese and they never expected an American Police Officer to be so fluent. There are many aspects to being a police officer and language skills are definitely important. With such a diverse population it is important to have officers that have the ability to speak with citizens that might not be fluent in English. The Beaverton Police Department and the community we serve are lucky to have officers like Officer Lamb.
