Did you know that consuming and creating are important components - TopicsExpress

Did you know that consuming and creating are important components to happiness? And did you know that if you mostly only consume then you likely will struggle with maintaining life satisfaction and happiness? Interesting thought, eh? For those of you reading this that may not be all that satisfied or happy with your life, really take a moment to pause and reflect. Do I mostly consume energy each day, or do I expend energy each day co-creating in some fashion that brings me fulfillment? A lot of folks who are not all that fulfilled often consume extra in order to feel temporary pleasure and relief, which actually only perpetuates and adds to the cycle since it is only through creating that promotes change. I have noticed this even in my own life! Anytime I take a few days to a week off of not writing (which is my form of creating), I feel a metaphoric overcast cloud drift in over me and it takes a bit more effort each morning to get the day rolling. If I give into the feeling of overcast, I want to be lazy, eat poorly, and veg out when its not for my best interests. I consume, consume, and consume -- often numbing my mind so I dont have to think about anyone or anything until Im good and ready. Can you relate? Ever feel this way? Ironically, it is only through the doing of creating that makes this overcast feeling go away -- even though the overcast clouds urge us to stay inside and relax. For some people creating involves their job, for others it will take the form of a hobby, and for some it may involve creating and maintaining a beautiful and harmonious home for their family. Some may say, Well, Im busy all day long yet I still feel unsatisfied with life and quite unhappy. In that case it goes back to either not having a creative hobby on the side, and for those who can easily shift occupations, then there may be opportunities that better suit ones creative pursuits career-wise. Creative Pursuits = creating individually or co-creating with others in some way, form, or fashion that benefits society and also brings the creator fulfillment. A lot of people that are unhappy feel they need to completely leave or change their job to be happy -- yet in many cases what is more applicable is simply fostering a creative hobby and having a weekly outlet for it. For me, it is amazing how just one day a week of line dancing (my hobby) gives me a huge boost of joy and fulfills the creative entertainer in me. So what type of creator are you? Many jobs out there dont fulfill this need, yet all of us can find ways to cultivate the creator within us and give ourselves healthy outlets that will add joy to our life. For me, Im the philosopher creative type, constantly thinking, questioning, and developing new ways to approach life and foster peace. My outlet that happens to work in alignment with my occupation is writing. And my other creative side is the performer: singing, dance, live comedy, acting, music, the works! Any and all bring me joy, and though I could have pursued it as a career, I chose to make it my hobby instead. And in the present moment, this side of me is fulfilled! The philosopher and entertainer combined turns into public speaking and teaching. Cool, eh? A lot of our creative pursuits combine to form talents and expanded activities that may assist us in our work life. So thats my two cents on the topic of consumption and creating! I invite you to figure out your relationship with each and how you can foster more creative outlets in your life.
