Elvis Presley’s 1956 song, Love Me Tender, put new words to an adaptation of the Civil War song, Aura Lee. Published in 1861, the song later became popular with college glee clubs and barbershop quartets, and was even sung at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. In this video, Elvis is singing the song in his very first movie, also called Love Me Tender. The movie was released in the cinemas in 1956, about a month after he performed the song live on The Ed Sullivan Show.
