Did you know the government has been suppressing our Arts scene not because they are worried our people will be corrupted but for because the G is protecting its ass and power base. How can its IB supporters not see this? Or maybe they too are protecting their minion asses too by protecting their masters? Ivan Heng, Wild Rice Artistic Director: "I sincerely feel that the funding guidelines regarding our so-called “core values” and “disparaging government institutions” – the very guidelines that lead to the punitive cuts to W!LD RICE - have no place in a truly democratic society. " "The guidelines are geared to discourage theatre companies from exploring issues that might be vaguely challenging or provocative. These curbs on the freedom of expression - what one is allowed to say, think or express - limits the imagination and puts unnecessary constraints on creativity. The theatre has always provided a safe space to reflect society’s differences, and hold those up for reflection and debate. Singaporeans are clamouring for greater transparency, openness, and a plurality of views. I would strongly encourage the NAC to revise and update its funding guidelines to better serve the expectations and aspirations of Singaporeans."
