Did you see? New design renderings for the Damen, Western and California Blue Line stations were unveiled at last night’s Your New Blue public meeting. Members of the community were also briefed on upcoming project work that will require temporary station closures beginning this fall as part of the $492 million, four-year program to modernize the O’Hare branch of the Blue Line. Beginning in August, under a $33 million station renovation project, work will begin at the Damen station, which will be closed for no more than 63-days followed by the temporary closure of the California station for no more than 42-days. The Western station will remain open throughout the improvements. All station work is expected to be complete by January 2015. The most comprehensive work is planned for the Damen and California stations and includes extensive and interior stationhouse and platform renovations that will preserve and restore the historic character of the stations, which were built in 1895. Work will also include improved signage, new LED lighting, new interior stationhouse finishes and restored exterior masonry walls. Platforms will receive new platform wood decking and safety tactile edging, repainted canopies, new windbreaks and other enhancements and amenities. A detailed timeline for project work is still being finalized and will be made available to the public in early July. For more project information, visit yournewblue.
