Did you see todays Wall Street Journal? The federal government - TopicsExpress

Did you see todays Wall Street Journal? The federal government wasted $100 billion of our money last year, and it isnt the first time. And if that doesnt make your blood boil -- you better check your pulse. Its a failure of leadership across the government. And as an accountant and candidate for the states top numbers-person, it makes me crazy. Here at home, its critical that we do better. But we cant safeguard taxpayer money effectively without Performance Reviews that are independent and free from political influence. Thats not what we have today. The State Legislature yanked the Comptrollers authority for Performance Reviews years ago and put themselves in charge. Now, the foxes who authorize the spending are in charge of safeguarding the hen house, and your tax dollars are at stake. Of course, my opponent Glenn Hegar has said repeatedly that he doesnt want to do Performance Reviews as Comptroller. But I think we need a real watchdog to oversee our money. And more than that, we need a watchdog with teeth who can set aside the politics and call the game as he sees it. Giving the Comptroller authority over Performance Reviews is a big step towards getting that done. Together, well not only shake up Austin - well fix the way our state does business!
