#DidUKnow? #FGCU uses performance funds to raise graduation, retention rates Florida Gulf Coast University received $8.1 million through the Board of Governors’ Performance Funding Model, and is putting the money toward several initiatives designed to raise graduation and retention rates and produce more #STEM graduates. Among other strategic efforts, FGCU has hired four academic advisers to guide new students who have not declared majors and a “first-year experience director” to ensure that students stay engaged with the university and continue their education until completion. In addition, the school is proactively reaching out to students who have completed at least 100 hours of class but are struggling to make it to graduation. Why should you care? The Board’s performance-based funding model ensures that the right incentives and resources are in place to help students finish their studies within a reasonable period of time and transition successfully into the state workforce. Bottom line? The State University System of Florida provides a good return on investment.
