“Didn’t hurt”….”well, maybe just a little” :D This post compiles a few of the adventures this little indie company has had in our first venture into the world of marketing. Last Friday we took the leap and released Max Rush on the iOS and Android stores. Max Rush is a pint-sized medieval action puzzler that Dark Spark Studios and Evodant Interactive created in the few hours of spare time we could pull together between other projects. With Max Rush we are aiming for a mid-core experience; Max Rush is meant to have a steeper learning curve then a casual game – but, once it gets intense, it demands your full attention. So…release….instant millions sold….right!? Nope. What the?! Very quickly once the game was released we were thrown into a much harder game – the game of marketing and working for the new currency – people’s attention. The game community is fantastic in that is will help out new Indies; we were getting our press release published and game reviewed by some fantastic sites. GamesPress, Gamasutra, Develop, AppAdvice, 148Apps, mmohunters, Super Game Droid, AndroidShock, AppSpy, and Gamers Temple are just some of the sites that helped us get the word out over the last week (Thank you!) The reviews were in general favourable – some, a bit harder to take, but we are stoked that these sites took the time to review our little game at all! Max Rush hit Rank 352 on the US app charts for combat/puzzle games – we even broke 300 on some search combinations! The last week was a roller-coaster to say the least. There were a lot of ups and downs – but, all and all it was a fantastic first week. None of it would have been possible without the help of friends, family and the gaming sites noted above. We have a long push ahead of us, and like Max Rush, self publishing has a steep learning curve and is intense - but, we are ready and willing to give it our full attention!
