On the sixth annual #WorldPneumoniaDay, the Global Coalition Against Child Pneumonia called for urgent action to end preventable child deaths caused by pneumonia by 2030. Currently, over 2,500 children under age five die of pneumonia everyday, with India, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Ethiopia accounting for almost 50 percent of total pneumonia child deaths. World Pneumonia Day was established in 2009 to raise awareness about pneumonia; to promote interventions to protect against, prevent, and treat pneumonia.
