Diesel kills Diesel on a road surface can be as slippery as black - TopicsExpress

Diesel kills Diesel on a road surface can be as slippery as black ice, but unlike ice, is an ever present road safety hazard, particularly for motorcyclists. As well as being a road traffic offence, spills affect everyone, not just those who are involved in an accident as a result of the spill. Accidents result in traffic delays and the costs of cleaning up spills are borne by us all. Most diesel spills are caused by overfilling the fuel tank - ‘brimming’ - which does not allow for expansion of the fuel, especially in warmer weather. People must remember to properly replace the fuel filler cap after each fill up and periodically check that the filler cap seal is in good condition. On larger vehicles, anti-spillage devices that fit in the fuel filler neck are a good investment, especially as they usually double as an anti-siphon device. Remember that loss of diesel from your vehicle might cost a few pounds at the pump - but it could cost a motorcyclist their life.
