Diet soapbox: I get irritated when I hear about some new wonder - TopicsExpress

Diet soapbox: I get irritated when I hear about some new wonder food or food culprit. Fat is bad! Except for good fat! Sugar is bad, no wait, artificial sweeteners are bad, no wait, agave is bad! Eat xyz because its high in vitamin abcdefg! Coffee is bad, no its good! Red wine is good, but too much is bad! What about white? Cacao is good, but chocolate is bad! SHUT UP!! It changes all the time, and if you separate anything from its context, you cant tell how it may affect you among the other things you do. If I want to make sure I have lots of nutrients, id rather eat a few things with lots of nutrients than trying to keep track of lots of things with one nutrient each! Eat holistically, with BALANCE. Eat all kinds of fruits and vegetables. Eat WHOLE grains. If you eat meat, eat it from healthfully raised animals with diverse diets and exercise (you know, like they say makes YOU healthy). Why would you want to ingest an animal that was raised differently? If you want to eat sweets, eat them, just do it in moderation. Listen to your body! It will tell you if it is satisfied or not; dont eat if youre not hungry. You KNOW how hunger feels, its HEALTHY to feel real hunger. A growling tummy never hurt anyone, so if youre not sure, try waiting until you are. Drink a glass of water while you think about it. Rate it on a scale of 1-5, and dont eat until you are up to 4.5. Then look at your options, and imagine tasting and eating them. Which appeals most? Unless you are literally wasting away, there is no hurry. Take your time. And stop eating when youre done. You dont have to clean your plate, and you dont have to eat the same amount every time you eat. I ate a ton on Monday and Tuesday, and yesterday I only wanted fruit at lunch. It happens, Im healthy. Okay, Im rambling at this point, but you get what Im saying, take food recommendations with a grain of salt. Or not, listen to your body and see how much salt IT wants.
