Differently-abled :- Super Talented If I regarded my life from the point of view of the pessimist, I should be undone. I should seek in vain for the light that does not visit my eyes and the music that does not ring in my ears. I should beg night and day and never be satisfied. I should sit apart in awful solitude, a prey to fear and despair. But since I consider it a duty to myself and others to be happy, I escape the misery worse than physical deprivation - Helen Keller... A prolific author, political activist and lecturer. She was the first deaf blind person to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree. - Abraham Lincoln, Winston Churchill battled their way up against mood disorder like depression to lead the country better than anyone. - Ben Stiller and Charlie Sheen has overcome Bipolar disorder (I know this disabilty better than most) to deliver huge comedy hits. - Agastha Christie, the worlds best selling book writer of all times, Albert Einstein - Man of the century needs no introduction and Alexander Graham Bell - well known as a inventor of telephone all suffered with Dylexsia. - Charles Darwin, Michelangelo, Billy Bob Thornton, Michael Jackson, David Beckham, Martin Scorsese, Leonardo DiCaprio, Justin Timberlake, Penelope Cruz, Cameron Diaz, Jessica Alba are few of the celebrities who suffered or are suffering with a high level of OCD (Obessive Compulsive Disorder) - Bonner Paddock, born with Cerebral Palsy, he became the first person with Cerebral Palsy to reach the summit of tallest freestanding mountain in the world, Mt. Kilimanjaro, unassisted, to demonstrate that life without limits is possible. - Stephen Hawking well known physicist in the world has ALS. - Stevie Wonder is a musician, singer and song writer who was born blind. - Sudha Chandran well known dancer (exponent of Bharatanatyam) and TV actress despite losing one of her legs to infection after a car accident was able to teach herself how to dance using prosthetic Japir foot, enabled her to become one of the most highly acclaimed dancer in the world. Although nobody expects to become disabled, it can happen any day, without warning. Disability affects nearly everybody at some point in our lives. The above examples shows that with some determination, you can achieve anything you desire. Obstacles and challenges are a universal part of the human condition. We all face them in everyday life, however we also have a choice as to how to deal with them. It takes a very special soul to harness the strength to climb to the heights these people have. Acheiving greatness is never easy, especially in the face of disability, and they not only made it look easy, theyre now forever disabilty superstars. Folks, one needs to understand that children/people with disabilities have great potential and if given an opportunity they can perform in all areas. There is need to work for creating friendly atmosphere for the disabled - be it homes, schools and public. I salute to all those 70 million plus people in India and millions across the globe to celebrate World Disability Day, I also ask all my readers to brainstorm on How to create a barrier free environment for the differently abled - Special people Happy World Disability Day.
