Digging through those old photos isnt always a happy thing. Here I am with Ms. 김 명 희, a graduate student at Jeonnam University who was my Korean language tutor in Kwangju from about 1977 to c. mid-1979. Myung-hee was infinitely patient, listening to me stumble through my attempts to read Korean newspaper articles at 0800 several days a week. This was probably taken at the train station in Kwangju as we all trooped out to say farewell as she left to study in the U.S. at a small sectarian school in the Southeast. Less than a year later she was killed in a late-night single vehicle accident--she may have fallen asleep and rolled the car on a mountain road. How very sad.
