Digicel Group holds press conference at Nay Pyi Taw To elaborate on obtaining a mobile operator’s licence, Digicel Group met the press at Jambuthiri Hotel, Nay Pyi Taw, whereon its chairman Mr Denis O’Brien explained about the prospective 4G Mobile Network. Digicel Group Limited in cooperation with first Myanmar Investment Co Ltd/ Yoma and Quantum Strategic Partners Limited will establish a countrywide 4 G Mobile Network beginning 11-2-2013. It will help ease the alternating chair responsibilities of ASEAN falling on Myanmar‘s shoulders in 2014 and increase the number of telephone users by 96 percent by early 2016, he said. Digicel will spend about USD 9 billion on solar-powered Mobile Network, while USD 6.6 billion will go for FDI. Its largest contribution will be free Internet connection to be used by 879 hospitals, 3900 BEMS’s, 4600 libraries and 180 universities, it is learnt.
