Dingman: I was sitting at the end of the bar one New Year’s Eve. At about 11:30, the poet Gregory Corso collapsed on the floor right in the doorway. He was so drunk he was kind of sliding across the wall. I said, “Jeannette, do me a favor. Because he’s a legendary poet and completely a mess, can we not 86 him? Can we sit him on the bench by the window until he sobers up or wanders out?” Jeannette runs a pretty tight ship. She doesn’t like any bullshit. But we did that. I was proud of Jeannette. Just because he couldn’t get through the front door doesn’t mean he’s a bad man...
