Much like a Zen affirmation, Inti-Illimanis music floats within your soul, filling it with calmness and hope....the group produces music that continues to simmer with appealing lyricism sweetening the subtle but intense verbal messages that have always been at the heart of its captivating music. (Los Angeles Times) Join us in kicking off the Hamilton World Music Series 2014/15 with Inti-Illimani, on tour from their native Chile in support of their latest CD, Teoría de las cuerdas, which comes out in November. Inti-Illimani have been making music since the late 1960s and are internationally known members of the nueva canción movement. Their song Venceremos which became the anthem of the Popular Unity government of Salvador Allende - however it cost them 15 years of exile. At the moment of the September 11, 1973 Chilean coup they were on tour in Europe and were unable to return to their country where their music was proscribed by the ruling military junta. They spent the majority of those 15 years in Italy. Nowadays, theyre still recording and performing the music they love. Theyve influenced a new generation of Latin American artists like French/Chilean rapper Ana Tijoux, who cites them as inspiration for her latest release. Enjoy the VIP Experience...
