Disability or not, we need to stop making excuses for children. When we do, we create situations where we back ourselves into a corner and teach them that they are above certain non-negotiable rules. Children must all be held accountable! When we determine to not hold them accountable, we set them into a pattern of excuses, upping the ante with behaviors which often escalate as they test the system over and over until they cross the line. Providing too much leeway creates self-entitled kids who dont understand why rules suddenly apply to them. Ultimately, we fail them!
