Discipleship Series; 04 December, 2013 (NKJV) 1 Corinthians 11:19, For there must also be factions among you, that those who are approved may be recognized among you. “No matter whom we follow and where we worship, what should matter and be important to us is to check and see if we are following Christ, His examples, commands and injunctions. Infact these define us as Christians not our places of worship or organisations to which we belong. John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.” 1 Corinthians 3:3 – 6, for you are still carnal. For where there are envy, strife, and divisions among you, are you not carnal and behaving like mere men? For when one says, I am of Paul, and another, I am of Apollos, are you not carnal? Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers through whom you believed, as the Lord gave to each one? I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase. One of the reasons of factions in our midst is as we have said earlier; “our differences.” There are almost not two (2) people with exactly the same needs, our needs determine who and what we follow, allow and tolerate. But irrespective of these differences, Christ Jesus should be the common Denominator among us all. But many have allowed factions to become divisions and we do not see ourselves as Christians (disciples and followers of Christ) anymore but by the name of the various organisations to which we belong and worship. As someone once said, “denomination is the main problem of Christians and Christianity.” We are divided along the name of our churches, even if the church leader is wrong on certain obvious matters; treading paths contrary to the teachings of the Bible and of Christ – we follow like sport fans and fanatics, refusing to think in line with God’s word and commandments.
