*Disclaimer: This is a long but sincere procession of my thoughts. Happy Memorial Day. I am so grateful for the men and women who have served in our nations forces to keep us safe and protect our rights and freedoms. But Im going to take this to another level. Many of you, friends, and I myself are part of a much greater citizenship than any country. We are not of this world- simply in it. Let us remember those who died to protect our FAITH. The martyrs, the persecuted, the imprisoned, all for the sake of the Gospel. Because they believed in its power. Why is it so hard to live like that? Complacency and ethnocentrism are two of Satans most disguised yet detrimental sins into which he traps us. My soul is no more important than that of a young child in developing country who is uneducated, starving, dehydrated, sick from disease and dirty water... God loves him just as much as me and you. People, the USA is a wonderful place to live, but rather that gloating and basking in our glory, why do we not reach out to the billions of other individual, God-created souls that aspire to have the slightest bit of prosperity that we have? As I stuffed myself full of food and sprayed gallon after gallon of clean water on a slip-n-slide, I cant help but wonder why I never felt this guilty before. So on this Memorial Day, I remember EVERYONE. Everyone who is struggling to survive. Everyone who is giving their life for a greater purpose. Everyone who wants a second chance, or a chance at all, but feels too hopeless to attain it. Everyone who deserves to ultimately know the redemption of Christ, through the love of God and the power of the Spirit. I am every bit as guilty of sin as the next guy, but that should not be a barrier to anyone. Happy Memorial Day, friends. Remember to always keep your national ego in its proper perspective, because BILLIONS of people have it worse than you do, and they did nothing to deserve that, just as we did nothing (except work productive, lucky jobs) to deserve what we have. Its all Gods. Things, food, water, knowledge. All of it. Let us be good stewards by following Christs example. Yes, blessings are indeed very positive things. We dont have to feel guilty about our blessings. But we do need to open our eyes to the full situation and do as Jesus would do. Feed the hungry. Give drink to the thirsty. Invite the stranger in. Care for the sick. Clothe the naked. Visit the prisoner. Love the neighbor. And by neighbor, I mean every single person on Gods green earth. Bless and be blessed!
