Discourse on technological innovation begins A nine-day professional development discourse on technological innovation in organisations began in Dhaka on Friday participated by some 40 professionals representing both private and public sectors. The discourse, titled ‘Fundamentals of technological innovation in organisations’ and organised by Bangladesh Institute of Management at BIM headquarters, is being conducted by renowned author and practitioner of this subject Nawaz Sharif who is now residing in the USA. Former vice-chancellor of BUET Iqbal Mahmud was the chief guest at the opening ceremony which was chaired by BIM director general Khandakar Rakibur Rahman. Speaking at the inaugural session, Sharif observed that technology management, particularly technology innovation management, is an issue that has received very little attention in developing countries like Bangladesh. He also pointed out that entrepreneurs from the private sector have a key role to play in taking up the challenges of technological innovation, besides the academia and research institutions. In his address professor Iqbal Mahmud said the fact that technology plays a major role in the growth of the economy and competitiveness has recently been acknowledged in the mainstream development discourse.
