Dissenting Opinion wrote a post on the 10 books that stayed with her, I like it so I think I will do the same! (Maybe she is starting another trend?) 1) 1984 I read this in middle school or high school and it began opening my mind to what the government was doing, and the world looks more like the book day by day. 2) Harry Potter (all of them) for the simple fact that Rowling proves kids stories can indeed also be deep. And that just because a prose is simple does not mean that it is only for children. 3) IT by Stephen King. The book focuses on child abuse and how the fears of the parent become the fear of the child. I did a symposium presentation on this one in college, and I read it once a year. 4) EarthS Children series my Jean M Auel. The way her cavemen live (mostly historically) is empowering to me, and helps me remember why I want an earthship and what I want out of life. 5) Hunger Games. Another book series that reminds me of the atrocities our government and others do. 6 & 7) Mists of Avalon and Wicked. These books remind me that there are at least two sides to every tale. I have run out of books lol! But counting all of the series I have listed.... 16 books since I am only speaking of the first Hunger Games book, though I would count all three as great reads. What about you? What books left a lasting impression on you?
