District Three News and Notes District III 2013 Convention website: ceed3convention July 11, 2013 Dear EE Family, Wow, what a convention! We had 50 couples from around the district attend the convention. We certainly want to thank the Birmingham EE Community and Unit 2 for all of their hard work and time given to planning, preparing, and putting on such an enjoyable, enriching experience for our EE Family. The speakers, discussions, liturgies, facilities, food, childcare, and entertainment were superb. Thanks a bunch for a fantastic weekend. We recently sent out a compiled listing of the ideas shared at our Friday enrichment before the convention. Also, the Birmingham EE Community sent out a list of the convention attendees. Our 2015 District III Convention will be hosted by Unit 4, somewhere in Texas. Charlie and Kathy Keane, our Unit 4 Coordinators, will soon be contacting our Texas EE Communities to begin planning our next district gathering. Our National EE Convention will be October 3-5, 2014 in Joliet, Illinois outside of Chicago. Conventions are a great time to meet other people involved with our marriage ministry and a great time to share ideas and be enriched within our own marriages. We were fortunate enough to have Jay and Julie Stuart, part of our National Executive Team, with us in Huntsville, AL. They shared with everyone present a number of national updates. With regards to governance, the National Board approved the ad hoc committee’s proposed revised by-laws. Now the committee hopes to have completed by the end of the year a draft of the remainder of our organization’s updated operational structure/procedures/policies (handbook). Central Supply has been streamlined and will soon have new coordinators, the Pinons from District V. There is a new number to call for placing orders. Orders may be made online from the catalog on our National EE website. Materials for the weekends, such as notebooks, certificates, prayer cards, decals, stickers, and a few books, may be ordered through the online catalog. Payment for the materials are to be sent directly to our National Finance Team, Jamie and Dawn Oehmann. Other items, such as t-shirts, bags, and mugs, may be purchased at our online CEE Merchandise Store (cafepress/ceemerchandisestore). Jay and Julie also mentioned that soon a Spanish/English notebook will be available through the Central Supply catalog, in part courtesy of the District V, Unit 5 Spanish group. National is also looking over a couple of proposals to redesign and update our National EE Website. National Social Media Coordinators, Michael and Crystal Babowal from San Jose, have been selected and have set up a National EE Facebook page (https://facebook/EngagedEncounter ), along with a few other online social media sources. In October, the NET will be going to Quido, Ecuador to represent the United States at the International Catholic Engaged Encounter Executive Board Meeting. In November there will be a leadership discernment for the selection of a new National Executive Team, whose term would begin January 1, 2014. The Stuarts have will have served three years by then. They asked that nominations of possible future national leaders be submitted to them by September 1, 2013. Our own district will be having its discernment for new district coordinators, October 26, 2013. We too are asking for nominations of possible future district leaders and their contact information be submitted to us by September 1, 2013. We too are in our third year of serving as your district coordinators. Though our time as leaders has been a very enriching, enjoyable, and rewarding experience, it is time to pass this roll on to another deserving couple. Please do not count yourselves out as possible leaders. It is not necessary to have all kinds of skills; it is more important to have an open, willing, trusting heart for our ministry. One last reminder, it is time for our annual appeal to help the International Catholic Engaged Encounter organization. You should have already received their annual appeal letter. If not, please let us know and we will send you one. Many EE communities around the world are not as blessed as we are and depend upon our help. Please consider making a donation to ICEE. It would help if you send your donation through our district finance couple, Bob and Mary Reimer, who will forward it to national who will send it to the international community. We as a district and as a nation have made a financial commitment to international, and when you send your donation this way, it helps with the accounting. Thanks. We hope you all have a wonderful rest of the summer. In less than a week, we will be off to Zambia, Africa to visit with one of our sons, Daniel. We will be gone for almost a month. Please keep us in your prayers. Take care. We love you all, and thanks very much for all that you are doing for our engaged couples and Catholic Engaged Encounter. –Clayton & Felice Hanks Our Atlanta EE Community has produced a great video for promoting Catholic Engaged Encounter weekends and has graciously shared it. This short video (4:46 minutes) can be found on You Tube at youtube/watch?v=AX4AV1zD7Eo&sns=em .
