District seeks members for Building and Site Utilization Committee - deadline to apply is October 5 In August 2014, the Farmington Public Schools Board of Education approved the issuance of a bond proposal to the community in May 2015. The proposed financing plan was developed after a several month process by the Districts Capital Planning Advisory Committee (CPAC) and involved research of recent failed bond proposals, community feedback and investigation of funding options. The approved recommendations call for the establishment of a Building and Site Utilization Committee whose charge is to create a long-term strategy regarding facility and site usage. To fulfill this recommendation, the District will be assembling a team of stakeholders to develop recommendations related to future steps necessary for responsible stewardship of District capital and property resources. Recommendations should be both short term and long term, with a completion horizon of approximately five years. The target date for providing a complete set of recommendations to the Board of Education is June 2015. As always, the District seeks participation in this process and is providing a means by which a broad representation of our school community may volunteer for membership on the Committee. This representation would include the interests of parents, students, staff, governmental agencies, civic groups and businesses. The completion of this charge will require a great deal of time and work, and Committee members will enjoy providing a meaningful contribution to the future success of Farmington Public Schools. It is expected that committee members will be attending evening meetings, at least every three to four weeks, over the next eight months. These meetings will last approximately two hours each. A Selection Committee of involved citizens will review all applications and select members for the Committee. As criteria for reviewing applications, this Committee will attempt to build a team that represents the interests of the entire school community. All who apply will be informed of the Selection Committees decisions no later than Friday, October 10. The application to apply can be found on the Districts web site at farmington.k12.mi.us and will be available for completion until Sunday, October 5. For those who have questions about the Building and Site Utilization Committee, please contact Jon Manier, Executive Director of Instructional Services, at 248. 489. 3409.
