This sad episode has highlighted how important the struggle remains to fight for a more perfect union and why we owe so much to heroes like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. who rose beyond demagoguery and vitriol in pursuit of a fairer nation less encumbered by hatred. Nevertheless, I believe my country is better than the ugly missives hurled from the fringes of this tragedy.
