Dixie Cup Spending Resolution: Mr. President, I noticed yesterday - TopicsExpress

Dixie Cup Spending Resolution: Mr. President, I noticed yesterday that one of the representatives in Congress made some very specific comments regarding the spending habits in Washington. Considering the number of issues that are outstanding in Washington over the Debt Ceiling, and budget shortfalls I would have thought that more support would have been shown by fellow lawmakers. I will go out on a limb here by saying that there was not support shown due to the fact that Congress was embarrassed. The gentleman simply pointed out that entire Washington system is failing to recognize that “spending is a problem”. One example that was used was that the Department of State purchased $5,000,000.00 of dinning crystal for the US Embassy around the world. When confronted about the purchase, the response was that, “we had money left over in this year’s budget”. A rational person would think that, just because I have tax payer money left over, I need to save it. The appropriations committee is aware of this outrageous behavior, as are most in Congress, but fails to correct the problem. Another item to look at, and this is according to the Congressional Budget Office, Sen. Jeff Sessions, Obamacare is not fully funded and that the balance of funds will be taken from Medicare. Utilizing a formula directly from the Budget Office, “over the next 75 years, 6.3 trillion dollars will be added to the deficit”. The Budget office also reflected on the number of “duplicate agencies” operating within the Government. This he said, would amount to a $250 billion savings annually if corrected. Well, I’m rather confused at this point. You see, in our household, if we don’t have it, we don’t spend it. This has seemed to work pretty well over the years. Perhaps, and this may be a bit cynical, but the people in Washington have forgotten the citizens of the United States. A short story to conclude my outrage; If I were to have the responsibility to work with leaders of the world and promote all of the great aspects of the United States, and also showing a willingness to assist these nations with financial aid, and all of this occurring during a somewhat informal dinner, and someone was to comment on Dixie cups being used instead of fine crystal. I would have to point out that America is a responsible Nation, and that our first concern is that of our citizens, and we are not responsible for the entire world. Secondly I would strongly criticize the audacity of the person making the remark and suggest that his request for aid be taken elsewhere. It’s time for the elected officials to complete the work of a congress. And it’s time for an American President to provide the leadership.
