Dnipropetrovsk region will use the Turkish experience in creation of technoparks In December, 1, 2014 Yevhen Udod, the chairman of Dnipropetrovsk Regional Council met with Mr. Ufuk Batum, Vice President of ODTU Teknokent Technoparkt (Turkey) to discuss areas and prospects of cooperation in the creation of technological parks in Dnipropetrovsk region. Present at the meeting were: representatives of government, business and rectors of the leading universities of Dnipropetrovsk city. The latest events in Ukraine, of course, got investors attention and slowed down their activity. Therefore we are looking for the latest innovative practices which we could use and improve the economic attractiveness of our region as well as the attractiveness of our state as a whole. One of such possibility is the creation of technological parks. They will ensure the full cycle of innovative practices implementation: ideas are born in the scientific community - turn into investment proposals - implement in practice. And now we are working on the prospect of technological park in Dnipropetrovsk, -Yevhen Udod said at a press conference in the news agency Most - Dnepr. Yevhen Udod said that it is planning the creation of two technological parks in the territory of Dnipropetrovsk region in the frameworks of cooperation with the Republic of Turkey. 10 years ago the share of innovative projects as part of Ukraines GDP was about 10%. Over the past ten years, this figure fell by more than 3 times, and today it is around 3.5%. Ukraine is losing its position in innovative directions and trying to withdraw from the resource products. Ukraine and, in particular, Dnipropetrovsk region, has great potential and this potential should be used for creation of innovative direction. Technopark is a system in which students, business and scientific environment interact with each other. This system is designed to commercialize innovative ideas of young scientists, - Yevhen Udod said. According to the Chairman of Dnipropetrovsk Regional Council, today, Ukraine needs to move from raw products trading to a higher level - the generation of innovation, which should be commercialized: We have studied the best practices of technological parks and industrial parks. Now we are considering the possibility of attracting the best expertise to create technological parks in Dnipropetrovsk region. We have visited Turkey and saw how their system is operating. Nowadays, the result of their work is the target model to which we should aspire, - the head of Dnipropetrovsk Regional Council emphasized. The creation of technopark will bring together government, business and scientific circles. At this point Dnipropetrovsk region has a number of advantages: we have more than 30% of young people studying exact sciences (at the same time the EU - 7-8%). Every year at least 10 students receive international awards and grants for scientific inventions and achievements - the highest rate in Ukraine. Today, 4 higher educational institutions have shown interest in the creation of technological parks in the territory of Dnipropetrovsk region. They are Oles Honchar Dnipropetrovsk National University, National Mining University, Dnipropetrovsk National University of Railway Transport named after Academician V. Lazarian and Alfred Nobel University. Turkey has created more than 40 technological parks and our industrial park ODTU Teknokent is the largest and one of the most innovative in the country. I will be pleased to share my experience in creating technological parks. I am convinced that you have a high potential for successful implementation of this project,- Ufuk Batum said. Ufuk Batum said that today Turkey has raised the level of its exports by 5 times, having transformed from a source of industrial raw materials to export: The Ukraine and Turkey have a lot of common ground in terms of further co-operation and we are pleased to share our 20 years’ experience in technological parks creation. Turkey has been focused on industrial raw material base, but during the decades the industrial contribution is losing its share. Over the past 10 years, Turkey has increased its exports by 5 times and today it is $ 160 billion,- Ufuk Batum, the Vice President of Technopark ODTU Teknokent said. For information: Technopark - is a complex that combines scientific research institutes, industry facilities, business centers, exhibition centers, schools, and service facilities. So, it is a form of scientific innovation process, which contributes to effective commercialization of high-tech developments.
