Do As I Do: Social Learning in Dogs Part 1. A rainy night so its time to work that doggy mind :). Here we show Stage 1 in teaching Kiyo to learn by copying what I do. Main criteria for Stage 1: 1. We start with 3 behaviours that Kiyo knows well enough to perform on verbal cue: stand, sleep, cross leg. Kiyo can differentiate between crossing his right paw over his left and vice versa as they have different cues, but for this game, Im not concerned with that differentiation. 2. The protocol to follow is: A. I pick one of the 3 behaviours randomly, but I must not pick it more than twice in a row. B. I demonstrate the behaviour, say Do it, then give the verbal cue for that behaviour. C. Kiyo is rewarded when he performs the requested behaviour. In this video, we show the above steps which are the starting points for teaching Kiyo the rule of imitation, i.e. do it will eventually become a cue to Kiyo to copy what he sees me do, even if its something he has not learnt before. Of course, were not there yet so stay tuned as we continue our studies :)!
