“Do You have the Holy Spirit?” John 16:5-11, “But now I am going to him who sent me; yet none of you asks me, `Where are you going? 6 But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your hearts. 7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. 8 And when he comes, he will convince the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment: 9 concerning sin, because they do not believe in me; 10 concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no more; 11 concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged. Many people read the Bible but very few learn the Bible. Many use the Bible and take the gestures, ceremonies, and uniforms, silver, gold, and anything that glitters or is appeasing to them and attempt to incorporate it into their life to somehow make their life better, greater, or more wealthy. Learning the Bible is set aside for those who do not depend on someone else’s experience to justify his or her faith. Let me clarify. There was certain blessing given to Abraham that was only for Abraham. Then there were some that were given through Abraham to his children. It is in that promise of the later that should secure and seal your faith. Gal. 3:14, “That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.” There are too many misconceptions about who the Holy Spirit is and what is his intended purpose. There are too many people believing that the purpose of the spirit is to fulfill some personal quest to obtain a care free life and achieve personal wealth. Others believe it is when they yell or dance after something good is said, or a good song is played. Understanding the Holy Spirit comes with learning the Bible, not just using the experiences of others to solidify a narcissistic personality. Jesus set before us an example to do as he has DONE for us, not pick and choose which ones we use and which ones to disregard. Usually the Spirit filled believers do not go for the quick fix or the flashy experience. They live and breathe for the abundant life that comes with being a believer. The Holy Spirit is not here to support ambition and acquisition it is come to endorse and support simplicity and humility. Lavish lifestyles are self-indulgent which goes against very principles Jesus taught. Not saying you can’t have, but ask yourself one question if you had to give it all away, would you? Or would you say God is not telling you to do that and stay just as shut up as you are. Why do we not give to our brothers and sisters who are in need, drive by the homeless, horde, and are not satisfied with what we have? Are these actions of Spirit filled person?
