Do listen: When we get older, we talk too much about the old days for other peoples comfort. But Im going to do it anyway. I have such a specific memory of finding the sheet music to this song in Grandmas wonderful old music cabinet that had shelves that rotated out when you opened the door. Standing beside the cabinet was a tall, slender ceramic woman in a long, clingy green gown, holding the hem of her flowing skirt in her fingertips, arching her back as if dancing. We cousins all loved that woman--wanted to be that woman. Probably only my sister Wendy will remember playing this song and singing in two-part harmony at grandmas old upright piano. We sang duets from a very young age. I always took the alto.
