Do not be misled: Bad company corrupts good character. - 1 Corinthians 15:33 I believe everyone has had that one friend who always seemed to be just a bit shady or got into trouble or even went to jail. Most of us probably acted just a little differently around that person than we normally did. Most likely, we generally liked that person and we acted how we did so we could fit in better and make them more comfortable around us. We do that in society to this day. We have all been guilty of it. If youve never dropped your morals to a lower level around a a certain group of friends to fit in, then you might be the bad company. Just saying. Lol Paul was scolding these people for sinning, and telling them to be more of an example. Are we not the same way? We change the way we behave depending on who we are around. When we are with our Christian brothers and sister, we feel comfortable talking about God or praying or discussing the bible. When we are around friends who are not avid church goers, it makes us uncomfortable to mention anything about Jesus. Is it because of bad company? Or are we truly the bad company because we dont stand firm and set the example? Look at how the country is now. Weve got 13% of the citizens telling the other 87% what to do, how to act, and what to believe. Who is making more noise? The Christians, or the atheists? We should be making noise and lots of it. We should be praying in public. We should be standing up for our beliefs. Bad company DOES corrupt good character, but only if we let it. Good company has a chance to corrupt bad character, as well. We should be behaving at a restaurant the same way we do at church. We should be having the same conversations at work as we do with our Christian friends at bible study. We have been humbled by bad character, and we need to remember what it means to be humbled by God! He is the only one who needs to worry us. He is the only one we should make sure we are not offending by speaking the truth. He is the one we should be praising in public. We should worry more about giving thanks to God, who loves us, than about making someone feel uncomfortable because we pray at the table. If we are not willing to stand up and be heard, if we are not willing to love God in front of everyone, if we cant find it in us to teach our kids that this is okay, then we ARE the bad company. Jesus says if we are ashamed of Him, then He will be ashamed of us in front of God. Celebrate being the GOOD company! If God is with you, you are in the best company no matter who else is around. That is all...
