Do you get frustrated by your dogs behavior of jumping up on visitors or people in general. The problem with the old school methods we hear such as knee them in the chest or pinch their paws, we can quickly create a fearful association in the dogs brain in regards to visitors/strangers. The key to extinguishing unwanted behaviors is to focus on what you do want in that situation and reward that behavior frequently and consistently for a good period of time. This is Thorndikes Law of Affect...behaviors that are reinforced stay and behaviors that are not reinforced go away.
