Importation of all electrical goods in subject to a LOA (letter of authority) issued by the NRCS (National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications).Although this legislation has been on the statutory books for many years it has seldom been implemented.However,in recent times when shipments have been stopped for examination ,the relevant Government Organisation is now calling for such LOA.It is imperative that all importers of electrical goods must ensure that they are in possession of such LOA prior to importation of the goods. It should also be noted that the SABS used to handle such LOA but in 2008 a new body i.e.NRCS was established which falls under the ambit of the Department of Trade and Industry. ***should you not have the necessary LOA, you shipment can be stopped for inspection. Cargo will only be released after you receive your LOA which can take months.***
