Do you know? Rendang originates from the Sumatran Minangkabau region. One of the earliest written records of rendang is frum the early 18th century called Hikayat Amir Hamzah. The making of rendang spreads from Minangkabau region to neighbourhood regions even across the strait to Malacca and Negeri Sembilan (now part of Malaysia). This resulting in a variety of rendang traditions. Rendang is also began to spread across the region when merchants and migrant workers had trading journey which could took days and days. "A durable preserved dry rendang is suitable for long journey. Good to consume for weeks, even when left at room temperature," said historian Prof. Gusti Asnan. (source: wikipedia)
